Ice Baths for Hotels and Spas: Designing the Guest Experience

An ice bath can become a distinctive part of a hotel or spa. The most considered installations begin with the guest experience: how someone discovers the bath, how the team introduces it, and how the setting supports the moments before and after immersion.

A private villa, a resort spa and a shared bathing area each have their own rhythm. Understanding that rhythm helps owners, architects, interior designers and spa operators make decisions that belong to the property.

Decide where the experience belongs

Consider the role of cold immersion within the wider guest journey. Will it form part of a hosted spa visit, be available within a private suite, or sit within a dedicated bathing area?

For a property with saunas or a swimming pool, think about the relationship between those facilities. The route, changing arrangements and staff guidance should make the choices clear. Any hot-and-cold sequence needs to be appropriate to the guest and the property’s operating procedures.

Nearby seating, towels, privacy and clear introductions can make the experience feel welcoming. These are useful design decisions to resolve alongside the bath itself.

Let the material support the property’s identity

Natural teak can bring warmth to stone interiors, gardens and covered terraces. Italian travertine offers a different architectural expression, with light beige tones and individual veins.

Arctic Edge’s Arctic Barrel has an upright, seated form. The Arctic Oval offers a more reclined position in teak, while Arctic Sereno brings natural travertine to the collection.

Review the bath alongside the surrounding finishes and lighting. Its materials should connect with the property, while its care requirements should be understood by the team who will maintain it.

Bring the spa and engineering teams into the conversation

A successful handover starts during design. Involve the people responsible for guest service, daily checks, cleaning and maintenance before procurement is complete.

Agree who will manage the operating schedule, check circulation, maintain the filters and arrange water changes. Staff need clear product instructions and a consistent approach to introducing guests to the bath.

For a multi-bath installation, discuss the intended pattern of use with Arctic Edge and the project team. The operating plan should inform model selection and the arrangement of the complete systems.

Resolve the services before the surrounding finishes

Arctic Edge systems are plug-and-play and do not require a permanent plumbing connection. The project still needs suitable power, filling and draining arrangements, structural support and chiller ventilation.

The chiller must remain accessible and have an unobstructed air path. Indoors, the project’s MEP team should assess its rejected heat and the room’s ventilation and cooling requirements. Provide the required 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection for app setup and scheduling.

Outdoor installations need protective cover, away from direct sun and rain. Coordinate that protection with the architecture or landscaping from the beginning.

Use our Installation & MEP guide for the technical requirements, rather than treating an editorial article as a construction specification.

Learn from real hospitality installations

At Sanara Spa, Grosvenor House Dubai, two Arctic Barrel ice baths were installed in June 2026. The photographs document founder George Kyriacou working with the on-site team around the baths and access area.

At Six Senses The Palm, Dubai, four Arctic Ovals were installed in July 2026, with an on-site review and demonstration of the controls.

Our One&Only Reethi Rah installation in the Maldives included three Arctic Barrels across the resort’s spa and private-villa settings. These projects show different ways the collection can sit within a destination.
